Congratulations to all 2014-2015 TAPIFers! A special shout out to new members of the Académie de Montpellier (yay Maura, Gettysburg represent!)! If you find yourself on the waitlist, don’t despair. Typically, a good chunk of waitlisted applicants are placed, but depending upon where you are on the waitlist, it may be quite last minute. Now begins the waiting game for all. I didn’t learn where I would be placed until early June. Be patient, research blogs people have written from your region (that’s why I wrote this blog, old assistants’ blogs were so useful to me!), and celebrate your acceptance. Keep an open mind. While blogs are useful, no two experiences are ever the same. Chances are you won’t be placed in the largest city in your Académie. Maybe you will, but if you’re not, sometimes the smaller cities have the greatest networks of assistants and there are benefits not being placed in the seat of your Académie. If you’re in a small town, maybe you’ll be close enough to live somewhere larger, or maybe you’ll get to experience small town French life. You’ll find out in a few months. I’ll be posting an “ask your questions” post most likely in early June, but feel free to comment on any posts now as you have questions.
Bonne chance as you prepare for an amazing experience in France!
